Anyasa’s Athena EP, released 30 March 2022 on Anjunadeep, is a compact introduction to a project built around connection: deep-house foundations, Indian cultural roots and four distinct vocal collaborations. It is Anyasa’s second EP under the moniker, following Gaya EP, but its real character comes from how the songs distribute the spotlight.
“Birha” pairs Anyasa with Barbie Rajput, “Kaise” with Abhilasha Sinha, “Roshni” with Tanmaya Bhatnagar and “Raina” with Chitralekha Sen. The voices are not decorative extras; they are central to a writing process that starts with melodies and themes, then gives singers instrumental or chord-based material from which to shape lyrics. That makes Athena a useful meeting point between classical Indian vocal influence and modern electronica, with female vocal energy carrying the EP’s emotional line.
There is a clear arc here. “Birha,” already featured on Anjunadeep 13, offers an early doorway; the remaining tracks widen the palette across the four-song core, with extended versions adding room to the arrangement. Anyasa’s interest in progressive and classic trance—pads, long breakdowns and dancefloor-minded structure—sits alongside gentler passages. The result is a release designed for both physical spaces and a live show imagined with interactive visuals: rooted, collaborative and open-ended.
