Simon Doty’s Universal Language is his debut album on Anjunadeep, released on April 28, 2023. It follows “Follow Me,” “Have You Ever?” and “Soulflow,” turning a run of earlier singles into a complete record.
The collaborator set broadens that frame. Ursula Rucker, My Friend, Tailor, Artche, Ruth Royall and Roland Clark appear across the album, while JODA’s “Closer,” featuring Robyn Sherwell, appears here in a Simon Doty remix. The credits make the record collaborative without taking attention away from Doty’s production.
Doty’s balance of melody and emotion keeps Universal Language rooted in house music built for the dance floor. That gives Universal Language its point of entry: a full-length record with the movement of a DJ set and the songcraft of its contributors.
